Unity Circle at V-prep

As Lindsay mentioned, this Friday we were privileged enough to see Village Preps “Unity Circle” weekly event. This event began when the children eagerly filed into the large open cafeteria at around 9:30. During this time, a few scholars won awards and all of them participated in lively chants. But my favorite part was watching all of the teachers and children let loose and dance. This sight was so weird to me because I have been so used to seeing the children absolutely silent the whole day. This exercise is still very orderly but all of the children looked like they were really enjoying themselves and it was really great to watch.

Next week I will be going to The Agnon School in Beachwood and they have a similar Friday ritual. At around two o’clock in the afternoon the whole school meets in the auditorium to celebrate Shabbat. This is also a time to sing and dance and be together as a community. I had wonderful memories of these Shabbat gatherings as a child and I can’t wait to go back and see them from a different view point. Agnon also had early 2:30 dismissals on Fridays which is very nice.
