First Day at Agnon

Unfortunately I was unable to start at Agnon on Monday because of AP tests, so today was my first day. And boy was it exciting! Today was Yom HaAtzmaut, which is Israel’s Independence Day. So today was a day filled with celebration and no classes! The day began with prayer and was followed by a huge parade. All of the students were decked out in blue in white as they walked down Shaker Blvd. and Brainard. Agnon students were also joined by students from Schechter and Mizrahi. (Schechter and Mizrahi are two other Jewish day schools in the area). This part of the day was a little hectic. There were kids running around everywhere just singing and dancing. I could never imagine something like this happening at Village Prep, just because there was not enough structure.

Next, all of the kids participated in Israeli dancing. This activity really tested my memory, but it was very fun and I got to meet a bunch of cute students. After that, my sponsor put me in charge of a color war game. The students were divided into blue and white teams and they participated in several activities such as hot dog eating contests and Frisbee. The blue team pretty much dominated all of the competitions. Tomorrow should be a lot different so it will be interesting to see what a normal day is like.
