2100 Lakeside: Haircuts!

So the other day, about 20 of the guys here got on a bus and headed to little Italy. We went to La Barberia, a Barber "college," to get free haircuts for the men so that some of their students could practice different hairstyles. Real excited, almost nobody just got a trim, but most made drastic changes in their hair, but still nothing too out of the ordinary. I was able to go and take pictures of the entire trip for the shelter to use as a part of their photo album that they have been sending to various locations around the area for viewing. One thing that really struck me was how important this trip was for some of the guys. They were really excited and you could not only see it in their faces, but a lot of the guys put on new clothes and showered minutes before we left because they wanted to look their best. Looking presentable was something that the men took pride in and this was a chance to look their best. Because the men have to sign release forms for the pictures, I had to ask permission from all participants before I started, but a lot them had no problem with being in photographs, in fact several would be asking often to take their picture in a different, more ridiculous pose than the last. It was nice to see something so simple as a haircut, be able to effect these guys so much, even if it was just for a couple hours within a day.
