This picture is of the spoon tuilles (very, very thin decorative cookies) that I made today. I made 3 batches of these, and they're easier than they look but still tricky. I started with a tray with a silicone cover and I had a plastic stencil with a shape of a spoon. I moved it along the tray and used a spreader to put thin layers of batter in 4 rows of 3 spoons. I also set up another sheet tray with parchment paper and a rolling pin at the end. Then, I put them in the oven for around 4 minutes, or until they started to get brown around the edges. At that moment, I had to reach into the oven and peel each of them off the tray with the spreader I had used earlier, and then had to pick them up (they were still very hot) and bend them into the shape of a spoon with the aid of the rolling pin, one at a time, within a 20-second increment. These tuilles harden very quickly, so if I didn't do it really quickly, they would harden before I could bend them! I think they are super cute so I just thought I'd share! :) I also made 3 huge pans of focaccia all by myself today and multiple sauces because the pastry chef had her day off.

Sydney, these look great! It looks like you are working hard and having a lot of fun. Also, I can not believe that you are already working by yourself on a lot of different things there. You are such a quick study. I am definitely going to have to stop by soon.

ReplyDeleteI'm spending about half my time working in a vegan kitchen for my project, but it seems like you're learning and doing things much more quickly and easily than me. I'm impressed that they are letting you do things on your own already - they know you can do well! I still have people watching over me when I do simple things like washing cucumbers...lucky!
