I've basically been plugging along in the book, getting through various types of positions and strategies for beginning players. Mr. Kitsis's book is titles Chess: Step by Step, From Beginner to Champion. He has 4 books in the series, and I am working on the second, which is designed for players that already know how to move the pieces but not much else. Topics include: King and Rook vs. King, King and Queen vs. King, other basic endgames, how to open a game, basic checkmating patterns, basic pins, forks, how to notate a game, and various other things. I am trying to create some additional puzzles from my own games that are relevant to the puzzles in the chapters. I take a game that I have played, analyze it, and then create a puzzle out of a position i got into. in http://www.chess5.com/viewgame2.php?gameID=4d269e15832d727278c3ecaa6462baf6 I could set up the position after move 32 and ask the reader how white should checkmate the black king. The next step is to go from using actual games to creating positions from scratch, which is a harder task.
